Events Rooms in the Libraries

Rooms Available:

* Food is allowed to be served in Community Room, but not placed on any glass display cases.  Food is not allowed in any other room or in either auditorium
** Reservable by Faculty/Staff only.

Classroom Instruction in Library Rooms:

Faculty/Instructors are welcome to make use of the library’s available event rooms to supplement their classroom activities. Computer instruction labs and auditoriums may be used as well. Media Services fees can be waived for such classroom activity in the libraries. No more than three reservations in any single room, including computer labs, are allowed in any semester to support a class.

Special Events:

The library system encourages faculty, students, campus and student organizations and the community to make use of its facilities for educational or cultural activities, conferences, meeting space, and other events not specifically designated as a “class.”  The following are general guidelines for appropriate usage and instructions for reserving the room. 


Faculty/Staff:

  • Reservations: Request rooms in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library by calling (313) 577-8854.  Kresge and Bernath Auditoriums are booked by calling (313) 577-1980. 
  • A single contact person must be identified for events, and only that contact person may request changes to a scheduled event.
  • Equipment: If an event requires the use of media equipment, call (313) 577-1980 to request a Special Event Media Request form.  Fees may be assessed, must be paid 1 business day prior to event, and can be paid with IRB, cash, check and credit card in the Technology Resource Center in Purdy/Kresge Library.
  • Restrictions: No more than three reservations in any single room are allowed in any semester to support a group, conference or to be used as University Department meeting space.


Student Groups:

  • Reservations: Student organizations are required by University Policy to go through the Reservations office of the Student Center and Program Activities Department (Room 573, Student Center) to request a room to hold an event on campus.  See Reservation Policies and Procedures , page 15, Student Organizations Information Manual.
  • A single contact person must be identified for events, and only that contact person may request changes to a scheduled event.
  • Equipment: If an event requires the use of media equipment, call (313) 577-1980 to request a Special Event Media Request form.  Fees will be assessed, and must be paid 1 business day prior to event.  Fees can be paid with IRB, Cash, Check and credit card in the Technology Resource Center in Purdy/Kresge Library. 
  • Fees:  A $50 cancellation fee is assessed if the group fails to cancel an unneeded reservation at least 24 hours in advance. 
  • Restrictions: Student Groups who violate room booking policies will be prevented from booking library spaces for at least one semester.


Community Groups:

  • Reservations: Request rooms in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library by calling (313) 577-8854, or coming to the David Adamany Undergraduate Library Check Out desk.  The Bernath Auditorium or the Kresge Auditorium are reserved by calling (313) 577-1980.  Reservations are limited to 3 uses per semester per Community group.  
  • A single contact person must be identified for events, and only that contact person may request changes to a scheduled event.
  • Equipment: If an event requires the use of media equipment, call (313) 577-1980 to request a Special Event Media Request form.  Fees will be assessed, and must be paid 1 business day prior to event.  Fees can be paid with IRB, Cash, Check and credit card in the Technology Resource Center in Purdy/Kresge Library. 
  • Fees:  Community Room: $50 per usage; Auditorium $150 per usage.  A $50 cancellation fee is also assessed if the group fails to cancel an unneeded reservation at least 24 hours in advance.  A $50 custodial services fee may be assessed if extensive cleanup is required after the event.
  • Restrictions: Evidence of tax exempt status may be requested.

Restrictions on usage:
